MOVING TIPS FOR ALL ROOMS 

  • Pack similar weights together and label boxes with the items contained and their room locations. 
  • Start the process by packing seasonal items, attic items, and other items that will not be needed within the next few weeks. 
  • Bath and kitchen towels, pillows, linens, blankets and other soft goods can be used as additional padding while packing. 
  • Plants are especially fragile, please move with caution. 
  • Lamp shades are also fragile, so wrap with packing paper and place in box at least 2 inches larger than shade diameter, label box “Lamp Shade - Fragile” and pack on top to avoid crushing. 
  • You may want to have area rugs cleaned before moving because you will receive them rolled, which will be easy for transport. 
  • Always mark boxes so that movers will know where goods should be placed. 
  • Number boxes so that all items can be counted on arrival. Make a list of boxes by number and indicate their contents. 
  • Moving historic, breakable or valued items? Such goods routinely require special handling and packaging.

Tips:
  • Put heavy items, such as pots and pans, at the bottom of boxes.

Tips:
  • Pack a box labeled “Important Papers/Immediate Needs” and pack items that you may need within the first few days at your new home. Keep all important papers, documents, phone numbers, etc. together. Keep this box near you during the move so you can access it easily if needed. 
  • Be careful when packing books and do not overload the box. Try to keep the weight below 50 lbs. 
  •  A qualified professional should assist you with moving preparation for large items such as pianos or pool tables.
